Nothing to say, so why not blog about it

I have felt extremely vapid lately. There are so many things going on, but everything is happening in real time, and I have no time to reflect. I feel all of these wonderful moments whirring past me, but I am completely unable to articulate them.

Last night after work my friend Mike and I went to this place called Crook's Corner. Its a southern home cookin' restaurant, but ultra upscale. It is situated on a corner at the end of Franklin Street, the main drag in Chapel Hill, right before the sign that says, "Welcome to Carrboro." Before I moved here, I read about 300 travel books about Chapel Hill, and this restaurant is listed in about 98% of them. When I would try and imagine what North Carolina looked like, this restaurant would play a predominate roll. I walked by it the first week I was here and recognized it right away. It has a giant white pig on the rooftop, very reminiscent of a Bob's Big Boy, but somehow arty and hip. The restaurant appears small from the street, but hidden behind a fence and a long tall stand of bamboo is a magical courtyard.

Last night we sat in that magical courtyard, fans twirling on the overhang, a fountain trickling, thunder rumbling on the horizon, and we ate jalapeno cheddar hush puppies and had frozen mint juleps.

The frozen mint julep is INSANE, and I will be replicating it.

Its a scoop of mint sorbet in a small rocks glass with a shot of rebel yell poured on top and and garnished sprig of mint that you can mush up with the little espresso spoon they serve it with.

It was a wonderful little happy hour. We walked the rest of the way home in the warm softly falling rain and I felt so happy.

Its nice to live the life you dream about.
